Joseph, 97, of Loveland, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025 at Pathways Hospice Center. His celebration of life will be held at Mount Olive Lutheran Church of Loveland, on Friday, November 14, 2025 at 2:00 PM. Interment, with military honors, will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery on November 19th at 11:00 AM.

Joseph was born on a rural farm in western Pennsylvania to Dominic and Mary Hovanec. The last of nine children. He is survived by his wife Sara Hovanec, niece Mary Hovanec, and step daughter Andrea Jadlos (Ted). He is predeceased by his parents and all siblings.

Joseph joined the US Marine Corps in WWII and was always proud of his military service. He loved talking to fellow veterans, where ever he met them.

Joseph worked at both Denver airports, Stapleton and Denver International Airport, for the City and County of Denver as a Stationary Engineer. He was a man of the highest integrity and dependability. Both airports provided many interesting and humorous stories over a long career. He mentored and encouraged many young men entering the field. He was tall and husky earning him the nickname of "Big Joe"

Hobbies included repairing antique clocks and pocket watches. Later in life he learned silversmithing. He loved working on mechanical things.

His favorite saying was "if a man made it, a man can fix it."

He was a devoted Christian, God-fearing man, that was always faithful, and loyal to his wife and family. He was a man of strength yet tenderness.

Joseph will be sorely missed by his family and all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 3411 S. Taft Ave., Loveland, CO 80537. 970-669-7350.
