Joseph Edgar James

1946 - 2025

Joseph Edgar James, 78, of Dayton, passed away on July 23, 2025, at the Butler Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.
He was born on Nov. 26, 1946, to Thomas and Cora (Kinney) James in Olean, New York.
Joe served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. He was a member of the New Hope Assembly of God Church in NuMine. 
Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his motorcycle and tinkering in his garage. He liked working on cars and was known for being a Ford guy. Joe loved spending time with his family and is fondly remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.
Surviving is his wife, Kathleen (Starr) James; daughter Jody Lynn Cary; stepchildren Charlene Geer and husband Robert, Robert Harmon and significant other Lissy Sabelnik, and Michael Harmon and wife Alicia; grandchildren Andrew Cary and Jayden Welder, 11 step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; brothers Thomas (Patricia) and Richard James; sisters, Kate Watterson, Joyce King and Elizabeth "Dub" Page; stepbrothers Rick, Randy and David James; and many step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Donna Hill James; daughter Lisa James; stepdaughter Patricia Harmon; brothers Harry and Stanley James; and sisters Joan Gray and Janet Shields.
Visitation will be held Sunday, July 27, 2025, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Carson/Boyer Funeral Home, Inc., Rural Valley. An additional hour of visitation will be held on Monday, July 28, 2025, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the New Hope Assembly of God Church in NuMine. A funeral service will immediately follow with Pastor Steve Kromer officiating.
Burial will take place in the St. John's Cemetery.
