Joseph “Joe” Emanuel Lowne, 81, passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at his home in Whitsett. He was born in Manhattan, New York and was the son of the late Josef Axel Lowne and Betty Matilda Nilsson Lowne and was married for over 57 years to Niesje Grevers Lowne, who survives.
Joe was a mechanical engineer with a degree from NYU. His work included working on the Lunar Modules. He later worked for NYNEX/NYTell/Verizon for the remainder of his career. He loved fixing things; he could fix or build anything with his large collection of tools. Joe was known for his generosity as well as for this love for his wife, children and grandchildren.
He was a member of Integrity Church in Yaphank, NY as well as Island Christian Church (formerly Northport Baptist Church) in E. Northport, New York, where he served as a Deacon for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Niesje Grevers Lowne, children; Dr. Yvonne Lowne-Chase and husband Ben Chase, Michelle Bontempo and husband Dr. Andrew Bontempo, and Dr. Joel Lowne and wife, Winnie. Grandchildren; Leah Chase and fiancé Daniel German, Maria Dimova and husband Nik Dimov, Julia Bontempo, Abigail Hecke and husband Zackary Hecke, Luke Lowne, Elise Lowne, Seth Lowne, Micah Lowne, Silas Lowne and Lydia Lowne. He was preceded in death by his parents; Josef Axel and Betty Nilsson Lowne.
A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at 5:30 PM at Gospel Road Baptist Church in Gibsonville, NC. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. They will also have a celebration of life service in Yaphank, New York at Integrity Church on November 17, 2023 at a time yet to be determined (after 5PM).
