Joseph Sidney "J.S." Kenyon, III, 92, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025, in Florence, SC. Born on October 20, 1932, in Ridgeville, SC, he was the son of the late Joseph Sidney Kenyon, Jr. and Emily Ruth Sillivant Kenyon.
After graduating from Summerville High School, J.S. spent his career at International Paper, where he retired after 43 years. He was a member of Winyah Masonic Lodge and served in the National Guard. He enjoyed spending time with family and watching Gamecock sports, Braves baseball and NASCAR. He will be remembered for his work ethic and love of the Lord and his family.
J.S. married his beloved wife of 67 years, Jean Hood Kenyon, on August 24, 1957, and they have been inseparable since. They spent most of their marriage living in Georgetown, SC, where they raised their children and made friends that turned into family. There they were members of Friendfield Presbyterian Church, and later, Herbert Memorial United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, J.S. is survived by his children, Sidney Kenyon (Lynn) and Lynne Kenyon Storr (Richard); granddaughters, Kenyon Storr Hyman (Richard) and Kameron Storr (Benjamin); grandsons, Aaron Branham (Brittaney) and Zachary Branham; granddaughter-in-law, Hannah Duell Branham; great-granddaughters, Aurora Branham, Charlee Branham, and Finley Branham; great-grandson, Everett Hyman; sister, Evelyn Kenyon Bradley; sisters-in-law, Lucy Slice (Stanley) and Vivian Newell; brother-in-law, Ramsey Grant, Jr., and many nieces and nephews. J.S. is also survived by Mandy Scogin (Scott) and Brad Dugan (Emilé), whom he considered children of his own.
In addition to his parents, J.S. was preceded in death by his sisters, Ella Ruth Kenyon Butler (Roy) and Mary Anna Kenyon Grant, and brothers-in-law, Joseph Bradley and Bart Hood.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the caregivers at The Manor, McLeod Regional Medical Center, and McLeod Hospice House for their loving care and support during his time there.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, January 26 in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Charles Wilbanks officiating. The family will receive friends briefly following the service in the mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in his name to the organization of your choice.
The Downtown Chapel of Mayer-Ethridge Funeral Home and Crematory is handling the arrangements.
