Joseph Lecce Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Vainieri Funeral Home on Feb. 15, 2025.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear friend, Joe Lecce, who left us on February 13, 2025, after a courageous seven-month battle with multiple illnesses. He was 81.
Born in Jersey City on October 17, 1943, son of Sadie and Joseph, Sr, he grew up in North Bergen and Gutenberg. Joe lived in Saddle Brook since 2009 where he quickly became friends with Dan as he referred to as the "best landlord" a tenant can have.
Since 2009, Joe served as the Director of the Saddle Brook Township Senior Center, where he was a beloved figure to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to others defined his character, as he consistently gave 150% of himself to make those around him happy. Prior to that he was a Vice President at Concord Fabrics for 25 years.
Joe served in the military for 3 years during the Vietnam war given an honorable discharge in 1967. It was there where he acquired his culinary skills loving to cook Italian food during his holidays.
Joe cherished his extended family, Bill, Ed, Denise and was an "uncle" to those he called "his nephew and nieces", "Finn", "Phoebe", and "Cassie". He brought joy to their lives, showering them with treats and toys during his visits to what he called his "South Jersey home", which became his home away from home. Joe loved all pets and had his own Eskimo Spitz named "Freddie" whom he loved dearly.
A man of many passions, Joe loved TV game shows, Hallmark movies, and suspense thrillers as well as the theater. Country music and concerts were his passion! His early years were filled with unforgettable adventures, traveling and creating lasting memories with his closest friends. Joe was also known for his compassionate heart, caring for the "love of his life", Matt, until his untimely death in 1988, a testament to the beautiful soul he was.
Though we grieve the loss of such a remarkable man, we celebrate the love and joy he brought into our lives. Joe Lecce will forever be remembered for his selflessness, kindness, and the indelible mark he left on all of us.
"May you find peace and comfort in the arms of angels".

I remember Joey coming to our home in Batavia, NY, where he spent several summers with us. Joined by our other cousins from Jersey we had on going Monopoly games for days! We roasted hot dogs and marshmallows in our "camp" fires and of course trips to Niagara Falls.
His sisters, Rosemary and Frances visited only one time.
Unfortunately, years passed, life happened and I lost touch with him. He was only 5 years older than me and my sister was just 2 years older than him. The other Lecce cousins were Paddy (Antoinette Lecce Bothe) and Nick (Mary Lecce Lordo), Joey Randazzo (Josephine Lecce Randazzo) and George (Dolly Lecce Friedman)-- some spent summers with us without their parents, on our chicken farm in the country. Rest In Peace, Joey.

Didn't know Joe very well. It appears he had a full life and that's as good as we can hope. Thank you, Cousin Bill (Caruso)
