Deacon Joseph A. Lucia Jr.

Deacon Joseph A. Lucia, Jr., 80, of Warren, PA., died peacefully Wednesday morning, January 29, 2025. He was born February 7, 1944, in Warren, PA. He was the son of Joseph A. and Rose Fazio Lucia, Sr. Joe was a lifelong Warren area resident. He was a 1962 graduate of Warren High School and earned his teaching degree from the former Edinboro State Teachers College, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in education. He taught school in Shinglehouse, Oswego Valley Central School and retired from Falconer Central High School where he taught Math and Calculus, retiring after 29 years of teaching. Joe had a great love of music; he served as music director at St. Joseph Church and served as their organist.
Joe was ordained as a permanent Deacon with the Erie Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in 1998. He served as Deacon at St. Joseph R.C. Church and Holy Redeemer R.C. Church where his ministry focused on the spiritual needs of patients, residing at Warren Area Nursing Home facilities. He taught classes for the Deaconate with Priests and Nuns from Gannon University and served as Liturgy Coordinator for the church Deaconate Program. He was a member of the Warren Knights of Columbus Council, former member of the Warren Philomel Club, served on the Elder Care Council of Warren, PA., as well as the American Cancer Society Board of Directors. Joe was an accomplished woodworker, building numerous podiums and woodworking items for Holy Redeemer Church and family members.
Joe is survived by his brother, Eugene Lucia and wife, Pat of Kane, PA., several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 2 Brothers – James Lucia, William Lucia, 4 Sisters – Frances Lucia, Rosemarie Lyle, Mary Jane Lucia, Elizabeth A. "Betty" Hewitt, and a nephew who lived with Joe, Matthew David Lucia.
Family will receive friends at Holy Redeemer Church, 11 Russell Street, Warren, PA., on Friday, January 31, 2025, from 5 to 8 P.M.
where a Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. with Fr. Mark O'Hern, Pastor, officiating, assisted by Deacon Raymond Wiehagen.
Interment will be in St. Joseph R.C. Cemetery, Warren, PA.
