Joseph Major Jr. Obituary

Joseph Philibert "JP" Major, Jr., 82 years old, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many was called to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 3, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He entered this world on September 27, 1941, born to Joseph and Louise Major, in Ventress, LA. He was a faithful member of St. Isidore Catholic Church for many years. JP will be remembered for his hard work and dedication to his family. He grew up with the mindset of the only way to get the job done is hard work even if it took long hours. Along with his love for work came a special adoration for the outdoors. JP was a very special man to his family and will be missed by all who knew him. Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Gail Johnson Major; son, Todd Major (Denise); 2 daughters, Dana Major Conaway (Chris) and Stacey Major Parker (Jeff); 4 grandchildren, Heather, Hayden, Claire and Natalie; 3 great-grandchildren, Olivia, Maevis, and Maks; brother, Kenneth Deselle (Vicki); and a host of nieces and nephews. Joseph is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Philibert Major, Sr.; mother, Louise Major Desselle; brothers, Charles Major and Sonny Major; and sister, Annette Bordelon (Garrett). Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Conaway, Jeff Parker, Tyler Slocum, Hayden Major, Kenneth Desselle, Jim Arceneaux, and Maks Major. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 5657 Thomas Road, on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, from 9:00 AM until the Funeral Mass at 11:00 PM, officiated by Father Frank Bass. The graveside service and burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, in Baker, Louisiana.

I send my late condolences to Ms. Gail and his entire family. I found out recently of his passing and I wanted to say he was a good friend & co-worker to my Uncle and we appreciate all those times he'd come help us hauling hay in from the fields. I enjoyed his friendship also!

I want to thank Ms. Gail for sharing Mr. JP with me ever since I moved to Ski Stone subdivision 15 years ago. JP was such a kind man that I could always depend on when I needed any kind of help at my cabinet shop! JP was such a pleasure to be around with that big smile that he always had. I enjoyed his childhood stories and the vegetables from his garden. He was always helping folks in the Brown Road area. Our community around Brown Rd. will not be the same without Mr. JP. My cabinet shop has been so lonely since Mr. JP got sick and I am such a blessed man to have known "JP"! I had the opportunity to stop by and see JP one day before he went to be with his Lord. He seemed to be resting peacefully when I asked Ms. Gail if I could touch him and she said yes and I did and called his name and he woke up and looked at me and I told JP that I Loved him! He mumbled something that sounded like rooster. R I P brother. Prayers for Ms. Gail and the entire Mayor family Rooster
