Joseph L Mathis

Joseph L. Mathis, 67, of Big Spring, passed away Thursday, April 11th, 2024 at Odessa Regional Medical Center, Odessa, TX. Joseph will be in state at Myers & Smith Funeral Home, Friday, April 19th from 9:00 AM until 12:30 PM. A graveside service will be held Friday, April 19th at 2:00 PM at Mount Olive Cemetery.
Joe was born in Big Spring, November 12th, 1956 to the late Joe Mathis and Melba Burchett Mathis. He attended local schools and graduated from Big Spring High School. He married his wife of 38 years, Debra Renfro, on February 14th, 1986 in Big Spring, TX.
He had retired from a career spent working in the oil field. Joe was a hard worker, good provider, and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He loved playing pool at John Wesley's and also loved to fish.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronnie Mathis, and James Mathis; and a sister, Amanda Mathis.
He is survived by his wife, Debra Faye Mathis; two sons, Michael Mathis, and Rick Mathis; two daughters, Misti Mathis, and Melissa Massey; two step-sons, Gary Barbee, and Danny Barbee; a brother, Stephen Mathis; and several grandchildren including, Angel Evans, Heaven Mathis, and Grace Drake.
