Joseph Collins May, born in Memphis, Tennessee, departed this life on November 17, 2024, in Southaven, Mississippi. He was a remarkable man whose dedication to hard work and family and friends created an enduring legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him.

Joseph began his remarkable career at the young age of 17, embarking on a journey that would see him move hundreds of houses throughout his life. His commitment to this challenging profession was evident as he continued moving homes until his late 70s. Although the exact number of houses moved is unknown, his contributions to the community through his work are immeasurable. Among his proudest accomplishments was moving a house on Central Avenue, an event that drew crowds eager to witness the spectacle.

Joseph’s character was defined by a strong work ethic and a giving spirit. He was not only the hardest working man in the eyes of his daughter, but he also prioritized his responsibilities as a young father, ensuring that he provided for his family. His generosity knew no bounds; even in his least wealthy days, he wanted to help others.Educated at Sacred Heart School in Walls, Mississippi, Joseph demonstrated his talents early on, playing football and drummer in a band during his youth. He retained a passion for activities such as water skiing and pool throughout his life. A notable water-skier, he dazzled many with his ability to ski backwards. Remarkably, he continued to compete in a pool league until he was about 80 years old, he and his team had multiple city tournament victories in Memphis, that lead to competitions in Las Vegas.

Joseph will be remembered fondly for his deep bond with his daughter, Danita May (Bob) Bell. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brandon Bell and Matthew Bell, and his sister, Dolores Gill. Additionally, he leaves behind a nephew, Noel (Andee) Williamson.

Joseph’s legacy also includes his late parents, Joe and Ella Sue May, as well as his brother, James May, who have preceded him in death. A Celebration of Life will be held to honor Joseph on November 25, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home, located at 290 Goodman Rd E, Southaven, MS, 38671.

Joseph Collins May was not just a mover of houses, but also a mover of hearts. His unwavering commitment to his family, work, and community paints the portrait of a truly extraordinary man who will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
