Thomas Harry Sanders, affectionately known as "The Dude," left this world on February 5, 2026, after bravely battling advanced stage kidney disease. Born on September 27, 1951, Tom was a beacon of light to all who knew him, his vivacity and spirit leaving an indelible mark on the lives he touched.
For nearly 40 years, Tom devoted himself to his career at Thyssenkrupp, where he became a highly respected figure in the elevator industry. After three attempts to retire, his passion for adventure ultimately led him to leave it all behind in pursuit of his true love—motorcycles. This shift symbolized the essence of who Tom was; always ready to go, with a heart full of excitement and wonder.
Educated at Northwest Community College, Tom's life was not only characterized by professional achievements but also by the rich tapestry of relationships he cultivated. He was a true friend to many; his sharp wit and intelligence were matched only by his generous spirit. Tom was known for his heartfelt hugs and his ability to mentor others, changing countless lives for the better. His conversations often concluded with the warm reminders of love, as he would always end with, "I love you Man" or "I love you Girl."
Outside of work, Tom embraced life with gusto. He reveled in the thrill of fishing, hunting, and traveling, sharing countless adventures with his beloved wife, Cathy Woodard Sanders. Celebrating a proud 36 years of marriage, they built a life full of laughter, joy, and unforgettable memories. Tom also took immense pride in his role as a stepfather to Clint Woodard and cherished the moments spent with his grandchildren, Koldyn and Ella-Kay Woodard.
Tom's compassionate nature extended beyond all measure, especially to his siblings. He is survived by his sister, Harriet Sanders Ferguson, and his brother, Mike Sanders (Sherry), alongside a large extended family whom he treasured dearly. Their lives are forever enriched by the love and kindness that Tom radiated.
Tom was preceded in death by his devoted parents, Harry “Pop” Sanders and Frances “Peg” Garrison Sanders, as well as his sister, Nancy Woelm Tolley. Their legacy continues to echo in the love and warmth he shared throughout his life.
As we remember Thomas Harry Sanders, let us celebrate a man whose adventurous spirit, boundless kindness, and unwavering love brought joy to all who crossed his path. His life is a testament to the power of connection and the importance of cherishing one another. While he may no longer walk among us, his spirit will continue to ride on in our hearts and cherished memories.
Memorials can be made to Ducks Unlimited, Inc. or the National Kidney Foundation.
