Joseph J. McCaffrey, of Williamstown, NJ, formerly of Blackwood, NJ, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2025, at the age of 86.
Joe leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Eileen McCaffrey (nee Walsh). Together, they raised a family that includes their children Maureen McCaffrey, Joseph McCaffrey (Karon), and William McCaffrey (Danielle). Joe was the proud grandfather to Tyler Schoell, Matthew McCaffrey, Lincoln McCaffrey, Susan McCaffrey, Logan McCaffrey, Aubrey McCaffrey, and Declan McCaffrey, each of whom brought great joy to his life.
He will be fondly remembered by his surviving siblings, Thomas McCaffrey (Janice), and Robert McCaffrey (Rena). Joe was preceded in death by his siblings Helen Snock (the late Larry), James McCaffrey (the late Arlene), John McCaffrey (the late Lil), Josephine Derago (the late Thomas), and Catherine Dougherty (the late James). His memory will also be cherished by many loving nieces, nephews, and their families, who were an integral part of his extended family.
Before embarking on his civilian career, Joe proudly served his country as an Aircraft Mechanic in the United States Marine Corps. His discipline and skills were later employed in his long-standing career as a Telecommunications Technician for AT&T, working at numerous AT&T Facilities. His work ethic and dedication to his craft were admired by all who worked alongside him.
Joe's talents extended beyond his professional life. He was a gifted stained glass artist, whose creations were as colorful and vibrant as his personality. He also channeled his love for sports into coaching soccer and baseball, where he not only taught the game but also imparted life lessons to young athletes.
Joe could often be found tinkering with car repairs. His mechanical skills were legendary among those who knew him, and he was always ready to lend a helping hand. Yet, Joe's favorite role was that of a father and grandfather. He took immense pride in supporting and attending his grandchildren's sporting events, always arriving with snacks in hand to cheer them on.
The McCaffrey home in Blackwood was the heart of many joyous gatherings, with memorable pool parties that were the highlight of family and friends' summers. Joe's love for his Irish heritage was expressed through trips to Ireland with his siblings, and he cherished the summer vacations spent at the Jersey Shore with his family.
Joe's life will be celebrated privately by his beloved family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association, Delaware Valley Chapter, 399 Market Street, #250, Philadelphia, PA 19106 or online at DONATE TO Alzheimer's Association
