Joseph Patrick McLaughlin, a beloved member of the community, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, at the Valley Hospice Care Center North. Born on January 26, 1958, in Wellsburg, West Virginia, formerly of Weirton, WV, he was a compassionate soul who devoted his life to his family and community.
Joseph had a long and fulfilling career as a Millwright at Weirton Steel, where he was respected for his hard work and dedication. A graduate of Weir High School, he exhibited a diligent spirit that carried through to his professional life. After dedicating many years to his craft, he took pride in the unique experience of being a foster parent. Joseph cherished the moments spent watching his children grow and thrive, leaving a lasting impact on their lives.
Outside of his professional commitments, Joseph was deeply passionate about his hobbies. Together with his wife, he embraced craft shows, pouring long hours into making the magic of their trade a reality. He also enjoyed working in his ceramic shop, woodworking, and painting, hobbies that revealed his creative side and brought joy to those around him.
Those who knew him would describe Joseph as a devoted homebody who appreciated the simple pleasures of life, often found watching TV or reading in the evenings. His warmth and kindness radiated not only within his household but also throughout the community he loved so much.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 45 years, Debra Lynn (Ross) McLaughlin; five children, Cheyenne McLaughlin (Jimmie Wilson) of Missouri, Cherokee McLaughlin of Toronto, Antonio McLaughlin (Ashley Close) of Mingo Junction, Jerry McLaughlin of Mingo Junction, and Caitlyn McLaughlin (William Stillwell) of Martins Ferry. He is also remembered by his four siblings, Lloyd McLaughlin of Weirton, Elizabeth Kriston of Weirton, Marcy (Lee) Speer of Burgettstown, and John McLaughlin of Weirton, six grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews, and a special brothers in law Ralph Ross Jr. Of Mingo Jct., and Jack Ross.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin L. and Evelyn (Cronsier) McLaughlin, and two siblings, Robert and Barbara McLaughlin.
Visitation will be held on February 5, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with funeral service at 5:00 PM with Rev. Craig Greathouse officiant at Schuetz Funeral Home, located at 235 Clifton Ave., Mingo Junction, OH 43938. Joseph will be laid to rest in Oakland Cemetery, Mingo Junction, OH, with Burial Monday February 9th at 11:00 AM.
Joseph Patrick McLaughlin's legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will always remember him for his comforting presence and the love he shared.
