Joseph Francis McNally

Joseph Francis McNally, 83, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at the home of his daughters in Triangle, Virginia.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Francis Joseph McNally Jr. and Susan Marie (McKay) McNally, Joe graduated from St. Joseph's Preparatory School and St. Joseph's University, where he studied mathematics and physics. He began his career with the Vitro Corporation in Maryland and later joined the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, serving as a senior analyst with the Joint Warfare Analysis Group until his retirement.

A resident of Frederick, Maryland, since 1976, Joe will be remembered for his lifelong loves—science, music, and baseball—and for his quiet wit, curiosity, and understated sense of humor. He also loved chess, was undefeated at any trivia game, and spent many happy summers in Sea Isle City, New Jersey. He had a special fondness for dogs, especially his loyal companion, Alex.

He is survived by his daughters, Eileen Marshall and Elizabeth McNally; grandson, Finnbar Joseph Marshall; brother, Francis J. McNally; sister-in-law, Terry (Murphy) McNally; niece, Kathleen Klemick; nephews, Kevin and Tim McNally; and several great-nieces and -nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Covenant Funeral Service, Stafford. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joe's memory to St. Joseph's University (Office of Advancement, 5600 City Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19131).
