Joseph Badi Mekdessie

Joseph Badi Mekdessie passed peacefully with his son Carlton by his side on Friday, April 12, 2024 at the age of 90. Joseph known as "Jose" was born in Paramaribo, Suriname on January 8, 1934 and was a lifelong resident of Algiers, LA. Beloved husband of the late Thecla Leonita Tjien A Fat. Son of the late Josephine Chehin and Badia Mekdessie. He is survived by his half-sister Agnes Van Rijn, his children, Rick Mekdessie (Carmen), Lilian "Cha-Cha" Scott (Ernesto), Carlton Mekdessie, Ryan Mekdessie (Rachel), Tanya Stuart (Stan) and his niece Astrid Cheng A June (Marlone). Grandfather of Blake, Justin, Christine and Ashley Mekdessie, Anthony, Nicholas and Benjamin Stuart, Elena Stukenborg (Sam), Thecla Scott, Dario Scott (Rachel), and Adam Scott (Liz). Great grandfather to Dario, Jr. and Jace Scott (Dario and Rachel) and Harrison Scott (Adam and Liz). He also survived by a host of nieces and nephews in Suriname, The Netherlands, Cypress, and the United States. Relatives, friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Friday, April 19 from 12:30 PM until 1:15 PM. The funeral service will begin at 1:15 PM followed by interment at Westlawn Memorial Park, 1225 Whitney Ave, Terrytown, LA.
