Joseph Michel Obituary

Joseph J. Michel
09/09/1927 - 06/30/2021
Joseph J. Michel, 93, of Stroudsburg, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, June 30, 2021.
Born in Dickson City, he was the son of a coal mine manager. He had two wives, first wife was Julie and second was Dee; both deceased. He is survived by his son Richard, grandson Freddy, and daughters Darlene and Marilyn all of Stroudsburg.
Joe served our country with dedication and courage in the United States Navy during World War II. Later he worked in Florida one season and the Poconos the next. He was a strong hard-working man. He bought the Beaver House Hotel on North 9th Street in Stroudsburg which was run down and boarded up. He transformed it into the largest and most popular restaurant in the Pocono's; with Maine lobster being the specialty. He then stared Diamond Jim's in Mountainhome, Beef n'Ale on 9th Street in Stroudsburg and Fiorentino's in Bartonsville. He bought lots of real estate and guns, and was an avid collector of antiques of all kinds. Unfortunately, he lost everything he collected over his lifetime in a fire (January 2020) that destroyed his house and all its contents. He said "I guess I'll have to start all over. Take me to the antique shop."
Joe belonged to many clubs and organizations including the Lions Club and German Club. He was on the Salvation Army board of directors, liked to paint and do mosaic tile murals, and was an excellent marksman.
Joe was a strong leader who was loved and will be missed tremendously. He was an impressive man - the greatest Dad in the world. We love you Daddy!
There will be a viewing on Thursday, July 8, 2021 from 10:00am to 12 noon at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg (tel: 570-421-9000). A short memorial service will follow (beginning at noon) where anyone is welcome to make a warm comment about Joe. Burial will follow at Delaware Water Gap Cemetery; then there will be a meal Stroudsmoor.
In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to The Salvation Army, 226 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301 (Attn: Rose London)
