Joseph Mizerski Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cabot & Sons Funeral Home on Aug. 6, 2024.
Joseph Richard Mizerski
With faith in the promises of our Lord Jesus Christ, we announce the death of Deacon Joseph "Joe" Mizerski, who went home to the Lord on Saturday, August 3, 2024.
Joe Mizerski was born in Chicago, IL, on February 19, 1940, to Norbert and Regina Mizerski. He was the second son in a family of seven children. Joe's family left Chicago and came to Los Angeles via Pittsburg shortly following World War II. He attended Cantwell High School in Montebello, CA, and graduated in 1958, and then attended Mount San Antonio College in Walnut, CA, and lastly West Coast Engineering School in Orange, CA. Joe also served our country in the US Army.
Joe started working for Pacific Bell during college and had a 38-year career where he held the position of Building Specialist at the time of his retirement.
Joe met his future wife, Lorraine, at a parish singles club, and they were married in 1985. Lorraine brought in her two teenage children (Richard & Kathryne) into their new marriage, and Joe accepted them as his own. Joe and Lorraine entered diaconate formation in 1995, and Joe was ordained on June 10, 2000. After ordination, Deacon Joe's first ministerial assignment was in prison ministry at Twin Towers for two years. Deacon Joe continued to serve in his parish of St. Therese in Alhambra. Deacon Joe and Lorraine served together strongly in their parish with sacramental preparation, annulments, altar server training, and funeral vigils & gravesides. Deacon Joe served at many baptisms and weddings and delivered numerous homilies. He was also a Marriage Tribunal auditor & advocate, and a past chaplain for the Alhambra Police Department.
Deacon Joe is survived by his wife of 38 years, Lorraine, their two children, Richard Young and Kathryne McGowan (Kiernan), four grandchildren, his sisters Mary Jean Fuentes, Noreen Day and Patricia Mizerski), his brother Daniel (Martha) and numerous Nieces and Nephews who will all miss him dearly. Deacon Joe will be remembered for his intense commitment to family, his leadership, and for being one of the kindest, humblest, good-natured persons one could meet.
Eternal rest grant unto Joe, O Lord
and may perpetual light shine upon him.
May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed,
Through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

As you Deacon Joe always made time for others but this time he went beyond expectations. I had just had back surgery in December of 2009 and he was also a patient there in the hospital and I´m sure it wasn´t for anything small. Well, when he found out I was there and just came out of surgery and in my room, he left his room on his own to check on me and say a prayer. Deacon Joe´s prayer I´m positive made my recovery easy and speedy. He´s a person you never forget.
