Swansboro- Joseph Mobley, 78, passed away at the Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport, NC on Friday, August 29, 2025. He was born January 7, 1947 in Duplin County, NC a son of the late Herman and Lucy Aman Mobley.

Joe faithfully served his country in the US Navy serving at NAS Cecil Fiel, FL, and aboard the destroyers USS Wiliam C Lawe and USS Rich.

After his Navy enlistment, he attended Coastal Carolina Community College. Afterward, he worked in the boatbuilding industry for fifteen years, then worked civil service at both Cherry Point and Camp Lejeune until his retirement.

Form childhood through adulthood Joe was a avid boater and fisherman. His love of rivers, lakes, and oceans extended from floating on an inner tube on the White Oak River to riding out a storm aboard a navy destroyer in the Bermuda Triangle. Fishing trips anywhere from farm ponds to the ocean.

One of the founding fathers of Swansboro soccer, Joe served as vice-president, coach, referee, field maintenance, and concession stand worker for Swansboro Soccer Association. He served four years as the assistant coach for the Swansboro High School soccer team and was the first head soccer coach at Coastal Carolina Community College.

After retiring, Joe pursued a longtime desire of writing. He had several short stories published, some which won awards. A member of Carteret Writers, he also served as a board member.

He is survived by sons, Rick Mobley (Nicole) of Oak Creek, WI and Jonathan Mobley of Swansboro; grandchildren, Ivy, Nolan, and Brady; and a brother, Wesley Mobley of Swansboro.

I have had the privilege of knowing this man for over sixty years. We shared so much and now he is gone. I am grateful for our memories. I sincerely hope his sons, grandchildren and those who knew him will find solace in the time they shared with him. He was so gentle and sincere in all he did. His greatest pride came in his sons. They were his pride and joy. May the memories you have and the joys you shared live on in your hearts. Good bye dearest friend! The Kid
