Joseph Alfonso Mora, 81, of
West Lebanon, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on the evening of January 9, 2026, after a courageous battle with a debilitating illness.
Born on October 22, 1944, in the small village of Murla, Spain, to José Mora and Rosario (Sirera) Mora, Joseph emigrated at age 15. He traveled by boat from Spain to New York City with his older sister Rosarin to reunite with their mother, who had already joined their oldest sister Gloria in New Britain, Connecticut.
Arriving with no knowledge of English, Joseph taught himself to read and write the language while attending middle and high school in the New Britain public school system. He continued his education with classes and training at the University of Hartford, which led to his first management position at the Fafnir Bearing Company in New Britain.
After high school, Joseph returned to Spain to court his childhood sweetheart, Pepita Seguí. They married in August 1966 in their beloved hometown of Murla. The couple settled into a three-family home on Arch Street in New Britain, sharing the space with Joseph's sister Rosita (and her husband John Dietzel), sister Rosarin (and her husband Joaquín Prats), and their mother Rosario. Joseph and Pepita welcomed their first son, Joe, in 1968, followed by their second son, Len, in 1971. In 1975, they built a home in Berlin, Connecticut, where they raised their family. In late 1994, a career change led Joseph and Pepita to start a new phase in their life, building a new home in
West Lebanon, NH and taking a position as Supervisor at Timken Aerospace.
A devoted family man, Joseph placed his loved ones above all else. He welcomed friends as extended family and cherished traveling with his wife and sons to Murla, making frequent trips over the years to reconnect with his roots and create lasting memories. An avid gardener, he took great pride in his yearly harvest, often sharing updates and photos with friends and family. He also enjoyed tackling DIY projects, proving himself a true jack of all trades with skills in masonry, plumbing, electrical work, and carpentry. There was little Joseph couldn't accomplish once he set his mind to learning something new.
Joseph was predeceased by his parents, José and Rosario; and his sisters Gloria and Rosita. He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Pepita; his sons, Joe (and his wife Jane) and Len; his granddaughters, Emily Lingam (and her husband Zack), Samantha Mora, and Anya Mora; his sisters Rosarin Prats and Anjelita (and her husband George) Bagou; as well as many cherished nephews, nieces, their families, and close friends in both the United States and Spain.
Details regarding a burial service and any memorial plans are still being finalized. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes notes, cards, or memories to be sent to the family home.
