Joseph Nicks, born on March 16, 1934, in Alamance County, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025, at the age of 91. He was a man of diverse interests and talents, deeply cherished by all who knew him.
Joseph's early years were marked by his dedication to the Boy Scouts, where he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and later served as a Scout Master, guiding young minds with wisdom and kindness. His passion for aviation led him to become an esteemed member of the Western Flying Club, where he delighted in piloting Piper Cubs, Bonanzas, and Cessnas, soaring through the skies with grace and skill.
A man of faith, Joseph sang joyfully in the choir at Fairview Methodist Church, lending his voice to the hymns he held dear. His academic journey took him to NC State, where he became an ardent supporter of the Wolfpack, a loyalty that remained steadfast throughout his life.
Professionally, Joseph was an accomplished insurance salesman with Mast & Garrison Insurance in Burlington. Joseph was also a gifted videographer and photographer, capturing moments with an artist's eye. He also found joy in the kitchen, where he loved to cook, often sharing meals with family and friends. A history buff, he was known for his appreciation of the past, while his adventurous spirit led him to enjoy snow skiing, scuba diving, horseback riding. Joseph's love for European cars was evident in his impressive collection, each vehicle a testament to his discerning taste and passion for motoring.
Joseph is preceded in death by his loving parents, Glenn and Pauline Nicks, his brother Daniel Nicks, and his sister Sarah Poythress. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his daughters, Lynne Carmichael (Cliff) and Kim Nicks (Matthew), and his beloved grandson, Duncan Thomas Carmichael.
Joseph Nicks will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and the indelible mark he left on all who had the privilege of knowing him. The family would like to thank the Woody family, especially Dennis, for their compassion and caring hearts, as well as Liberty Hospice for their efforts and professionalism in last several months.
