Died: July 31, 2024 in Mendota, Illinois
Joseph C. Nuske, 56, of LaSalle passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2024 at O.S.F. Saint Paul Hospital, Mendota, IL.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Toluca, IL. Masonic Service will be at 6:45 p.m.
Additional visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 7, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Toluca, IL with the service to follow. Pastor John H. Mix will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, in Toluca, IL. Dysart – Cofoid Funeral Chapel will be assisting the family with the arrangements.
Joseph was born on January 7, 1968 in Streator to Donald and Betty (Mix) Nuske. He married Gina Drew on September 23, 1995 in Walton, IL.
He graduated from Toluca High School in the class of 1986. He went to I.V.C.C. where he received his Associates Degree in Applied Science in Electronics Technology and received a certificate in Engine Performance,. He was a machinist and worked for Caterpillar in Joliet for 25 years until he retired. He was a Chief Steward, a committeeman, a chairman of the general committee of Local 851 and was a District 8 Business Rep. for the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers. He was also a machinist at Black Brothers Co. in Mendota.
Joe was a very active member and leader in several Masonic Fraternal organizations working to improve the community and to support various charities. He served in several key officer positions, including two terms as the Worshipful Master of Occidental Lodge No. 40, A.F. & A.M., in Ottawa. Additionally, he was active in the following Masonic organizations in Ottawa: Shabbona Chapter No. 37, Oriental Council No. 13, and Ottawa Commandery No. 10. Also, he had been a member of Tebala Shrine, in Rockford, which has a goal of providing care for children. Briar Knoll Hunting and fishing club member since 2012. He was also an endowment member of the NRA and he was on the committee Illinois Valley Friends of NRA.
Joe was owner of Feral Firearms manufacturing and was a Cerakote Certified Applicator and a graduate of SOTAR. He also attended many gun smith classes.
Survivors include his wife, Gina Nuske of LaSalle; one son, Colton Nuske of LaSalle; his mother-in-law, Sheila (John) Hemminger of Amboy; one brother-in-law, Tyson (Magen) Drew; one sister, Judy (Marty) Moreno of Granville; sisters–in-law, Kirsten (Pete) Donna of Amboy and Janelle (Dan) Leffelman of Austin, TX, multiple nieces and nephews and numerous aunts and uncles. His Dog, Diesel was by his side.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Jerry Nuske and father-in-law, Thomas Drew.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Colton's Education Fund, Lighted Way in LaSalle or the Masonic Lodge in Ottawa.
Pallbearers will be Pete Donna, Mickey Martin, Tim Menefee, Ralph Moshage, Jim Rippel and Bill Kraft. Honorary Pallbearer will be Tyson Drew.
