I've been thinking of what to say for a few days. Thinking about how much I wish I could celebrate the New Year with my Papa. I miss him so much and I think about him every day. When little things happen I see him in my mind, or when something funny happens I wish I could tell him about it. I remember that one Easter, I think it was the first one that my brother, Samuel was around for, so this had to be 2017. Anyways I remember that he gave my baby brother a large blue egg with a cute stuffed bunny in it. I remember being slightly jealous because he was holding Samuel pretty much the entire day, but then, a bit later he came up to me and gave me a super soft grey stuffed bunny and such a small thing brought me so much joy. I still have that bunny and I cuddle it whenever I miss him. I wish he could come see me graduate this year, and I wish he was here to lecture me when I do stupid things. I wish he could see how much Samuel and Evie have grown, and I wish I could hug him and tell him I love him. I wish I could've gone out and watched fireworks with him on New Years. I wish a lot of things, but most of all, I wish he was still here and healthy.

Well, it’s been two years and I don’t know what to say. You were the brother I never had. You helped me when I started at JeffCo and was a true friend! I remember helping you put on that bench shirt and watched as you pushed all that weight up. I tried to stay in touch more after I went to Colorado Springs but both our lives got in the way. There were so many good memories working in the jail I couldn’t name just one. I do remember eating the extra breakfast trays in booking!!! I know your better off and out of pain but I sure do miss my brother and friend!

To me he was Papa. I loved him so much, and I still do. He has taught me a lot of things. With him, I caught my first fish and learned so much about survival and nature. I am happy to say that he is no longer in pain, even if it means that he has to be gone. To the rest of our family; keep faith, it is not a goodbye forever, it is a see you later. He would not want us to be sad over his death, but to think of how he has taught us and all of our good memories. He was strong. He was kind. He was Joseph Obechina. Be good to people to make him proud, and be just to make him feel like he has influenced us greatly, like he has. I love you Papa! I will miss you, but I'll seeyou when it is my time.

Joe, since the day we met you were a brother to me. The Auto Theft Task Force would not have been the same without you. Your humor and passion for the job was apparent. You never stopped showing your love to your children and when you mentioned the names of your daughters or your grandbabies you had this twinkle in your eyes and the sweetest smile on your face.
I remember when you and Jordan went to see Five Finger Death Punch in concert, you smiled from ear to ear and could not stop talking about it.
Every year I went to Sturgis you said you are coming with the next year, so to entice you a little more I would get you Sturgis memorabilia. This year you will be there watching over me.
You have raised amazing young woman and I love having all of them in my life. You will be greatly missed brother but I am glad you no longer have any pain.
Rest easy

Joe, I wish with all my heart I'd known you 'when'. You have been a part of our lives but a short chapter and I so wish we'd had more time. I have immense respect for you. I loved hearing your stories, either first hand or through Jordan. You always made me laugh. You were larger than life and the world is simply a lesser place without you in it. I will miss coming up to see you and I will miss just knowing you're there when I pass the house. You were also such an important person in my son's life~ thank you so much for loving him!! I miss your presence already and I know he does, too. Rest, now, Papa Joe. I can't wait to see you again when I get there! "Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." To my brother... before you were a cop, you were my best friend growing up. We would hang out, crack jokes, play pranks and annoy our siblings. Even dare each other, listen to heavy metal music and enjoy each others company. When you graduated Highschool, you joined the Marines, 2nd battalion recon. You saved other Marines lives and was part of Casper Weinberger's protection team. Although you were more serious, you still had a knack of helping ease stressful situations through humor. Your love of music and attending concerts was always a blast. I remember a Rat concert in the 80's when we were walking to our seats and an ex-con saw you. "Good day Officer Obechina!". You said good day and they disappeared. We did not see them the rest of the concert. You laughed and said it was there loss. You were so into the concert, you gave me a head butt. It the first and last time I ever had one. Although, I was a little ticked off at the time. Today, it is a fond memories of being with you. My heart is broken and I am happy you are no longer in pain. BUT I just miss YOU.

Joe,
You will always be such an incremental part to my life.
You have not only taught me how to deal with lifes situation but you have taught me how to grow and face obstacles that have shaped me into the person i am today. Along with your 4 other daughters, you took care of me and acted as a father i never thought i would have. You will always be a big part of me and i am deeply greatful that you and your family have come into my life and impacted me in such a positive way. I love you Joe

To Joes family Im truly sorry and sad for your great loss.
Joe was a model Deputy Sheriff and funny as all get out. He was looked up to by his peers and when he spoke people listened. Such a big body of a guy and even a bigger spirit. He sure loved his family. I recall how he would light up as he would often speak of them.
Joe was the proverbial 'Speak softly and carry a big stick'.
Like all who knew Joe Im happy that he is no longer suffering and in pain.
Father of all, Grant to Joe eternal rest. Let your perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
Hug Jesus for me bud.
Mike
You achieved this Joe. And that is something a lot of people can't say. You will be missed. Godspeed Joe. Godspeed.
