Joseph Payne Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Watson Funeral Home & Memorial Park - Winchester on Aug. 30, 2025.
Joseph A. Payne, age 83 of Cowan, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born in Bradford, Pennsylvania, on July 18, 1942, to the late Ralph H. and Ada M. (Drage) Payne. Before his retirement, Joseph worked as a machinist for Boeing. In his spare time, he enjoyed being outdoors horse riding and hunting, as well as woodworking and listening to blue grass music. A real prankster, his sense of humor and smile were contagious, and he truly enjoyed making people laugh. All who knew him will remember his kind and loving nature. Joseph was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Deborah Payne; and siblings, Maxine "Carol" Payne, Charles "Chuck" Simmons, Sarah Payne, Winifred Simmons, Virginia Simmons, Russell Simmons, Imogene Payne, Ralph "Son" Payne, Loma Simmons, and Leroy Simmons. Joseph is survived by his loving daughters, Kimberly (Timothy) Payne and Lori (Allen) Ledyit; grandchildren, Keegan Ledyit and Kyle Ledyit; great-grandchildren, Onix Ledyit, Hadley Ledyit, and Menlo Ledyit; brother, Richard Payne; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Visitation will be from 4-5pm on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Watson Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 5:00pm in the Roy B. Watson Chapel of Watson Funeral Home. Interment will be at Cowan Montgomery Cemetery. Watson Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 405 Sharp Springs Road, Winchester, TN 37398, (931)-967-2345, www,watsonfhtn.com

I am very sorry for your loss. When I lived in Estill Springs, I attended Church with Joe and will attest that he was kind and a loving individual. May he rest in peace and prepare to meet God.
