Joseph Plescia, loved father, family member, friend, and educator passed away peacefully on Sept. 12, 2025 at the age of 75. Born in Brooklyn, New York to Joseph and Carrie Plescia, Joe grew up with a love of sports and his Italian community. He played football throughout high school and college carrying with him a passion for the game and lifelong friends. One of those friends was his dear friend, Frank Ottochian, who he leaned on throughout the years. Joe started a new chapter in his life when he moved out to California on a football scholarship to UC Santa Barbara. He then attended Monterey Peninsula College and transferred to California State University, Sonoma where he received his bachelor's degree in Psychology. He furthered his education by attending California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo where he received his master's degree in counseling. After college, Joe made his home in Monterey, CA where he married, Linda Plescia, and raised two daughters, Raedina Wildfong and Carrie Plescia, who were the pride and joy of his life. Joe devoted more than 20 years to teaching English as a Second Language, general education, and the pre-release program at the California Correctional Training Facility in Soledad. He also was a high school teacher and counselor. His commitment to education and second chances inspired countless students and colleagues alike. An avid outdoorsman, Joe found joy in raising horses, fishing with his friends, white-water rafting, watching football on fall days, and taking in live music whenever he could. He also gave generously of his time, volunteering with the disabled veterans axillary, becoming a freemason for the brotherhood and charitable causes, and supporting other causes close to his heart. Joseph Plescia is survived by his daughters, Raedina and Carrie Plescia and his brother, Jim Plescia. Other survivors include many close cousins, extended family members, and friends who will remember his humor, silliness, and fun-loving nature. A celebration of life and burial at sea will be held in Monterey and San Clemente, CA in the springtime.
