Joseph grew up in Chicago and was a member of the USAF from 1958 to 1962. He met his wife, Barbara, while stationed at the United States Air Force Surveillance Radar station in Hanna City, IL. Joseph was a banker for over 30 years at the First National Bank of Chicago and worked hard to provide for his family through many construction projects on the side.

His many hobbies included Chicago 16" softball, bowling, model trains, carpentry, numismatics, philately, golf, and fishing at the summer home he built near Hayward, Wisconsin. After the passing of his wife, whom he attentively cared for over several years, he could often be found playing Pinochle and Texas Hold'em with his friends at the community clubhouse.

Joseph is survived by his loving children Michelle L. (William) Busby, Joseph K. (Yvonne E.) Polenc, and Anthony J. (Rebecca L.) Polenc; grandchildren Ashley (Kevin) Meaux, William Busby, Jonathan Polenc, Lucas Polenc, Vincent Polenc, Madeline Slowikowski (Fiancé Michal Malec); great-grandson Joseph R. Polenc Jr., great-granddaughter Olivia Meaux; one sibling Barbara J. Polenc; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Barbara L. Polenc; parents Joseph C. and Regina Polenc; and treasured US Army veteran grandson Joseph R. Polenc Sr.

Memorial Visitation will be held Friday, September 12, 2025 from 3-8pm at Anderson Memorial Home, 21131 W Renwick Rd, Plainfield IL 60544. Cremation rites have been accorded. Inurnment will be private at Abraham Lincoln, Elwood IL
