Our beloved father/Papa, grandfather and friend, Joseph Phillip Rudman (95), passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 19, in Sandy, Utah.
He was born May 3, 1930, in Salt Lake City, Utah to William Leopold and Katherine Elardo Rudman. He married the love of his life, Marian Quast Rudman on November 27,1953 in Burley, ID. They are the parents of two children: William (Rosemary), and Jan Brewer (Edward); and six grandchildren: Jessica, LeeAnn, William (William and Louise), Morgan, Bailey and Madison (Jan and Edward). Joe also has eleven great grandchildren.
Joe loved his wife Marian and his family. Marian was a loving and devoted partner, and they shared a lifetime of memories, love, and support. He met Marian while working at Paramount Pictures on Film Row in Salt Lake City. They were married for 70 years until Marian passed away in 2023. He was a devoted father to his children, Jan and Bill, whose lives he enriched with wisdom, kindness, and humor.
Joe never met anyone that didn't become a friend. Joe loved music and was an amazing, self- taught musician who could play the accordion, guitar, harmonica and banjolele. He enjoyed jamming with his friends at Crescent Senior Living. Another favorite pastime was afternoon pool with his good friend Richard.
Throughout his life, Joe embarked on a variety of successful ventures. Joe and Marian owned and operated the Whittier Market also known locally as the Penny Candy store, a carpet cleaning business, and Kaysville floral. He also worked for the state of Utah in the driver license division and was a successful mobile home salesman. In their later years, Joe and Marian moved to Saint George, where they started a baby clothing business.
Joe and Marian's shared adventures were numerous, encompassing work, golfing, building and selling homes. However, their most treasured experience was selling their home and exploring the United States in their RV for seven memorable years. They traveled extensively, venturing between Mississippi and Idaho, with frequent stops in Arizona, Texas and Utah. Joe loved eating out, especially Chinese food and Japanese food at his favorite restaurant the Koyo.
Joe spent his early years in Scofield, Utah where his dad was a coal miner. As a young boy Joe was a sheep herder roaming the hills above Scofield reservoir with his dog Pal. He cherished his memories hunting and living the life of Huckleberry Finn in the mountains of Carbon and San Pete Counties.
A proud veteran, Joe served honorably in the United States Marine Corps.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife Marian, brother Anthony William Rudman, and daughter-in-law Louise Cecil Rudman.
Joe's life was a testament to love, family, and the pursuit of his passions. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family expresses their sincere appreciation to Canyon Hospice and the staff/friends at Crescent Heights Senior Living. You were all true professionals and full of compassion.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, at Larkin Sunset Gardens located at 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah.
