Joseph P. Scaglione, 101, of Norwood, NJ, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025. Born December 7, 1923 in Norwood, NJ to Dominick and Theresa (nee Chiafulio) Scaglione. Joe was a kind and compassionate person, who loved to work in his flower and vegetable gardens.
Joe was drafted in to the United States Army Air Force in 1943 and served his country until April 1945. His squadron was to fly missions in Germany during WWII and it was there that his plane was shot down and he was captured by the Germans and became a POW in Moosburg, Germany from January 1945 to April 1945. He received the Air Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, the POW Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the European Middle Eastern Campaign with 3 Bronze Stars, the American Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. When he returned home he opened his own business in Landscape Gardening and retired in 1986 in his hometown on Norwood, NJ.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife Irene (nee Hinsen) Scaglione, his sisters, Rose Scaglione, Minnie Maiorano and Connie Capobianco, and brothers, Dominick Scaglione, Philip Scaglione and John "Sharkey" Scaglione. He is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours are Tuesday, March 11, 2025 from 10 AM to 12 Noon at Pizzi Funeral Home, 120 Paris Ave, Northvale, NJ. A Funeral Service will be held at 12 Noon at the funeral home with interment to follow at Rockland Cemetery, Sparkill, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org, would be appreciated.
