Joseph Nathaniel Scott, 20, born on December 14, 2004, in Bluefield, West Virginia, passed away on July 23, 2025, in the town he called home his entire life. His unexpected departure at the tender age of twenty brings a profound sense of loss to all who knew him.
A proud graduate of Bluefield High School, Joseph embarked on a career as a conductor for Norfolk Southern Railroad, a role that exemplified his dedication and commitment to his work. His love for the railways was evident, and he approached each endeavor with the same enthusiasm and passion that defined his character.
Joseph was deeply rooted in his community, cherishing his connections to family and friends. He is survived by his adopted parents, Billy Ray Scott, Sr. and Julie Palmer Scott of Bluefield, WV, who provided him with love and support throughout his life. He also leaves behind his biological parents, Billy Ray Scott, Jr. and wife Jennifer of Kentucky and Christina Conley of Bluefield, WV. He is mourned by his brother, James Scott, and sister-in-law, Cassidy, both of Bluefield, WV, along with his half-sister, Nataleigh Lynn Scott of Kentucky.
Joseph's family circle extended to his great-grandmother, Charlotte Scott, of Bluefield, WV, whose wisdom and love enriched his life. In addition to his family, Joseph was in a loving relationship with his girlfriend, Erin Hammock of St. Albans, WV, a bond that brought him immense joy.
Joseph Nathaniel Scott will be remembered not only for his contributions as a conductor but also for the warmth and kindness he extended to those around him. His spirit and memories will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of his family and friends as they navigate this difficult time.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 28, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at The Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell, WV with Dan Pruitt officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell, WV, with James Scott, Ryan Houk, Hayden Nelson, Jon Walker, Henry Kiser, Tery Oxley, and Ayden Walker serving as pallbearers.
A visitation will be held Sunday, July 27, 2025, from 6:00-8-00 PM at the funeral home.
