Joseph Wesley Sefton, 75, passed away on February 23, 2025, in Huntsville, Alabama. Born on June 10, 1949, in Huntsville, Joe lived a life enriched by family, humor, and an appreciation for life's simple joys.
Joe served as a Staff Sergeant in the Army National Guard, demonstrating his dedication to service and country. Beyond his military commitment, he pursued a career in business, earning a bachelor's degree in business management at the University of Alabama in 1979. He held managerial positions at Walt Disney World Resorts, The Huntsville Hilton Hotel, and the law offices of Brinkley, Ford, Chestnut & Aldridge.
A devoted Alabama football fan, Joe rarely missed a game and took great joy in cheering on his team. He also found solace in reading, immersing himself in stories that fueled his curiosity and imagination. Among his fondest memories were family trips to Anna Maria Island, where he cherished watching the sun set with his family-a quiet moment of reflection that he held dear.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Moss Sefton. His love for Susan was a boundless presence that remained steadfast and true, as they were set to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in March. He is survived by his children, Rachel (Gabriel) Larose, Michael (Marlo) Sefton, and Lilly Sefton; and his treasured grandchildren, Lucy, Evelyn, and Oscar. He is also survived by his brother, Michael (Nicole) Sefton, sister, Evelyn Hinesley, sister-in-law, Mary Claire Sefton, and sister-in-law, Lila Harris; as well as his nieces and nephews, Katie Sefton, Patrick (Anne) Sefton, Aimee (Emilio) Soto, Cristin (Patrick Puopolo) Hinesley, and Jacot (Michelle Hurwitz) Hinesley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn Wheeler Sefton and F.N. Bill Sefton II; his brothers, Patrick Sefton and F.N. Bill Sefton III; his nephew, F.N. Bill Sefton IV; his brother-in-law, Joseph Hinesley; and niece, Robin Sefton.
Joe's legacy lives on through the love he shared with those closest to him. His memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 301 Drake Ave., Huntsville, AL 35801.
