Joseph Sidberry, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026, in Wilmington, North Carolina, just three days shy of his 79th birthday. Born on March 19, 1947, in Pender County, North Carolina, Joseph lived a life marked by dedication, simplicity, and a profound love for nature and family.
Joseph proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. Following his service, he worked as a custodian at New Hanover Regional Medical Center for several years, where he was known for his diligent work ethic and friendly demeanor.
A man of the outdoors, Joseph found great joy in hunting deer, rabbits, and bobcats, as well as spending peaceful days fishing. His garden was his sanctuary, where he lovingly tended to rows of okra, collard greens, cabbage, beans, and a variety of other vegetables. He had a deep appreciation for the bounty of the land and enjoyed sharing his harvest with family and friends.
Joseph had a particular fondness for seafood, especially oysters, and cherished visits to Eagle Island, where he could savor these delights. Recently, his daughter had the opportunity to take him there to enjoy a memorable meal together, a moment she will forever hold dear.
He is remembered with love and admiration by his daughters, Kimberly Jones and Sherry Lopez, his sister Loretta, and his cherished grandchildren Derrick Hankins, Jr. and Shquita Hankins. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Neveah Hankins, Derrick Hankins III, Ashiyiah Hankins, Kylie Redd, Karter Redd, and Kyrie Redd. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Deliah Sidberry, and his son, Damien.
Joseph's daughter proudly recalls the quiet strength he displayed throughout his life, a testament to his character as a simple, country man.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly welcomes donations to help support them during this difficult time and assist with final expenses.
