Joseph "Joe" Spedus, was born July 30, 1948, in Chicago, Illinois. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 20, 2025. Joe is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Pam (Vollmer) Spedus; his daughter, Nicol (Bradley), and her husband, James; and his two grandchildren, Richelle and JJ, who were the joy of his life. Joe spent his years building and fixing with a skill and brilliance that amazed those around him. He had an unmatched ability to understand the workings of any machine or tool and was always ready to share his knowledge, teaching others with patience and wisdom. Outside of work, Joe's passions were just as inspiring. A lover of music, especially classical music, he played bass guitar in his younger years and enjoyed collecting string instruments throughout his life. He considered himself a luthier, as he repaired over one hundred instruments in his life. He was also known for his love of cats, a generous spirit, quick wit, and sharing endless supply of facts that made every conversation interesting. Above all, Joe was a family man. He cherished every moment spent with loved ones and held a special place in his heart for Disneyland trips shared with his family. After moving to Maui ten years ago, he found joy in island life, where his family will honor his memory by spreading his ashes at sea this December - a fitting tribute to the place he loved so dearly. The final details for the Celebration of Life service to honor Joe are pending. Joe will be remembered for his wisdom, generosity, humor, and the countless ways he enriched the lives of those who knew him. Joe's family wishes to praise the help and support of Hospice Maui. Memorial donations may be made to Maui Humane Society and Hospice Maui in memory of our much loved and very missed Joe Spedus.
