Joseph “Joe” James Sprissler, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025, surrounded by family after a long and full life lived with curiosity, humor, and a deep love for the people around him. Born on October 12, 1939, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Joe grew up with a strong sense of family and a quiet determination that carried him throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Miriam (Schuler) Sprissler, and his sister, Miriam Mooney, each of whom shaped the thoughtful and steadfast person he became.

Joe pursued his education with great pride, earning his Bachelor of Science from LaSalle College. While at LaSalle College, Joe was part of the ROTC, and then served in the US Army for 2 years. After his military service he attended Indiana University of South Bend obtaining his MBA. While in Pennsylvania, he served in the Pennsylvania National Guard Unit for 16 years. Joe's career as a rubber chemist took him from Uniroyal in Philadelphia to Mishawaka, Indiana, and eventually back to Newtown, Pennsylvania. Joe approached his work with the same integrity, patience, and dedication he showed in every part of his life. Upon retiring, Joe settled in Thousand Oaks, California, where he enjoyed the sunshine, the ocean, and the rhythms of a quieter life. In his final years, he lived with his son David in Taiban, New Mexico—years that were filled with gratitude, companionship, and the comfort of close family.

Joe is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Elaine Sprissler; his son David Sprissler of Taiban, New Mexico, and daughter-in-law Laura Sprissler; his daughter Janet Sprissler of Oxnard, California; and his grandchildren Miguel Sprissler, Jazmin Regalado, Brandon Sprissler, Joseph Sprissler, and Belen Sprissler—each of whom brought him immense joy and pride. Joe’s life was shaped by simple pleasures and deep passions.

He loved the ocean—from crabbing in Stone Harbor, New Jersey, to standing quietly on a pier with the salt air on his face. He was a lifelong Notre Dame football and basketball fan, cheering faithfully through every season. He was a 4-H dad, a fisherman, a golfer, and a man who found wonder in the outdoors. But above all, Joe loved the beach. It was his place of peace and reflection, where he felt most himself. Those who knew Joe remember his gentle spirit, his steady presence, and the way he brought joy without needing to be the center of attention. He lived with humility, kindness, and a deep appreciation for life’s small gifts. In his final days, he continued to brighten the lives of those around him—an enduring testament to his character. Joe will be profoundly missed and forever loved by his family, who take comfort in knowing he is now at peace, carried by the same ocean breeze he cherished throughout his life.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, December 20, 2025 from St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. Father Sotero Sena will officiate the Mass.
