LEXINGTON--Joseph J. St. John, 89 years old, was residing at Medilodge of Yale when he passed away on May 11, 2024.
Joseph (Joe) was born on December 22, 1934 to Joseph and Clara St. John in Detroit, MI. After graduating from high school, Joe went on to join the Navy during the Korean War. Joe dabbled in a few odd jobs after honorable discharge, until he found his life long career of 29 years with the Detroit Fire Department, where he retired in 1986 as Lieutenant at the age of 51 years old. Starting in 1970, Joe worked hard picking away at building his home in Lexington, MI where he would enjoy the years that would follow. After retirement, Joe kept busy investing several years performing maintenance with the DNR in Lakeport, Lexington, and Port Sanilac. Whether it was at home or at work, Joe enjoyed maintenance work, because he could fix anything.
In 1961 Joe married Marilyn and they would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on May 13, 2024. Together they went on to have four children, Robert (Angie) St. John, Michael St. John, Patrick (Karen) St. John and Krysti (John) Peck. Over the course of the years, Joe was an active member of the VFW and enjoyed marching in the parades proudly displaying our nation's colors. Joe and Marilyn were a great team working the VFW bingo hall kitchen for many years. In his spare time, Joe loved to listen to music while "puttering" out in the garage working on wood projects, maintaining vehicles, writing letters to the editor, and when given the opportunity, loved to share stories. Joe also enjoyed many years of gardening.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his children, their spouses, and three grandsons, Christopher St. John, Jarrett St. John, and Steven St. John.
Joe would never say it, but he hopes that peace of Jesus Christ be with all. Visitation will be from 11 A.M. – 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the Pomeroy Funeral Home in Lexington. Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday afternoon, Fr. Lee Acervo of St. Edwards Catholic Church in Lakeport will officate, immediately followed by Military Honors provided by the Croswell American Legion. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Salvation Army or the Detroit Firemen's Fund Association.
