July 11, 1927 - March 19, 2026
Joseph I. Stone passed away peacefully on March 19, 2026, just a few months shy of his centennial birthday. Joe leaves behind his son Edward Stone (Lisa Salmons), his daughter Sara Stone (Mohamed Tika); his three grandchildren, Lindsay Prestwich (Daniel), Luke Stone (Camila), and Calvin (CJ) Stone; his great-grandson Dylan Prestwich; and his loving companion of recent years, Patricia Rogers. Joe was predeceased by his wife Marilyn, his daughter Hillary, and his son Daniel.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, Joe proudly served in the Navy during World War II. After the Navy, he attended the University of Michigan and George Washington University School of Law. He was a criminal defense attorney in New York for many decades and held court and hosted Wednesday lunches for many years at Ecco Restaurant in downtown Manhattan. To the chagrin of his family, he was a die-hard Red Sox fan and also may have been the oldest living New York Jets fan. His presence at the Jets tailgates will be sorely missed.
Services are under the direction of Thomas M. Gallagher Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Ave Stamford, CT (203) 359-9999, and will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2026 at 10:30 a.m at the funeral home. To send online condolences to the family, please visit www.gallagherfuneralhome.com.
