Joseph Tamburri Obituary

Joseph S. Tamburri
Joseph S. Tamburri, 78, of Norwalk, CT, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Norwalk Hospital. He was the husband of MaryAnn Fera Tamburri. The couple have been married for 52 years.
Born May 9, 1947, in Settefrati, Italy, he was the son of the late Carmine and Teresa Capocci Tamburri.
Joe graduated from Brien McMahon High School, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from University of New Haven.
He began his career with the City of Norwalk Redevelopment Agency, where he also became active in local politics. He then spent 21 years with MetLife Insurance Company before joining South Norwalk Electric and Water (SNEW), where he served as the Collections and Customer Relations Manager for 16 years.
An avid golfer since he began playing at the age of 14, Joe always had his clubs close by. He started as a caddy at Shorehaven, played four years of varsity golf at McMahon and was the captain of the 1967 golf team. Joe enjoyed playing golf at Oak Hills from the time it was built, and later played a part of the long history of Oak Hills when he was appointed to the Oak Hills Commission, serving two four-year terms. During the last three years of his term, he served as the chairman, during which time they built the Oak Hills Park restaurant.
Joe believed strongly in giving back to the community and served on many city and local boards including the SONO Business Association, representing SNEW, and Brien McMahon High School Alumni Association, working to raise funds for scholarships. For several years, he helped co-chair the annual Brien McMahon Alumni Association Golf Tournament at Oak Hills, and remained actively involved each year playing with his foursome and sponsors.
Joe has served his community for over 30 years, as Justice of the Peace, having performed marriage ceremonies for countless couples. He was a eucharistic minister and served on the Saint Philip Church Board of Directors, and is a Life Member of Norwalk Sons & Daughters of Italy and St. Ann's Club.
In his spare time, Joe enjoyed traveling abroad, going to concerts and gardening, along with his daily walks at Calf Pasture Beach.
He is survived by daughters, Gina Thiel and her husband, Paul Thiel, of Los Angeles, CA and Lisa Tamburri (Michael Pappas), grandson, Miles Thiel of CA. He is also survived by his brother, Ralph (Lisa) of Bethel, sister, Anna Tamburri of Norwalk, and brother, Dominick of Bethel, CT, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Marie Staton of North Carolina and Joann Tamburri of Norwalk, CT.
Friends may call Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 4:00 - 8:00pm at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Oct. 23, at 10:00am in St. Philip Church, 1 Father Conlon Place. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, 223 Richards Avenue, Norwalk, CT.
