Joseph Tarsio Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Schepp Family Funeral Homes Newell-Fay Manlius Chapel on May 22, 2025.
Survived by his wife, Maureen Tarsio, and two children, Nicole Tarsio and Kipling Tarsio.
Born on September 7th, 1951, Joe passed away on May 21st, 2025. He was born into a family of Italian immigrants in Brooklyn, New York, where he also attended St. John's University to pursue his passion for earning a Ph.D. in Biochemistry. It was during this time that he met the love of his life and lifelong partner of over 50 years, Maureen. Joseph later earned an MBA from Le Moyne College.
Joe worked in various scientific research labs across the country as a biochemist and consultant. In his later years, he dedicated himself to shaping future generations of scientists and medical practitioners through his classes at Onondaga Community College and Upstate Medical University.
He was passionate about making a difference in the world and dreamed of making scientific discoveries that could improve lives. He often said he wanted to create a better world for his children. Beyond his scientific pursuits, Joe deeply impacted the lives of many. As a teacher, he supported countless students both in and outside the classroom-coming full circle when, in his final days, one of his former students cared for him as his ICU nurse. These connections, along with those he shared with his family, were among his proudest achievements.
As a father, he gave his children a safe and joyful childhood. To many others, he brought light through his infectious laughter and bright smile.
Joe enjoyed nature, especially being near water. Throughout his life, he explored many outdoor activities, and in later years found joy in fishing and walking the trails around Green Lakes with Maureen-often with a camera in hand to capture the world through his unique lens. He also loved taking Kip and Nicole to the movies or bike riding around town. With his grandchildren, Bjorn and Rollo, he performed magic tricks, delighting them with his creativity and humor.
One of Joe's greatest passions was music. He will be remembered for playing the electric guitar and singing with joy-even if not always in tune.
