Joseph W. Towns, age 75, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2025, in his home in Yarmouth. He was born February 26, 1950, at Cape Cod Hospital, the son of the late Alton and Rosemarie West.

A born and bred Cape Codder, Joe was drawn to the water from an early age-working alongside his father in the waters surrounding Cape Cod. From 1969 to 1975 he served in the Coast Guard and achieved the rank of Petty Officer. Years later, he returned to the sea as a captain of his own vessel the Nu-Dawn and began a fishing charter business out of Bass River. After his father's death in 2014, he captained the family fishing vessel the Deana Marie and continued fishing the same waters both commercially and as a charter boat captain.

Joe was strong, funny, and completely himself. Those who knew him will remember and miss his infectious smile and larger-than-life presence. When he wasn't on the water, he found joy riding his motorcycle, hunting, watching the Red Sox, and spending time ""outback"" with family, friends, and his beloved dog Peaches.

Joe is survived by his wife of 33 years, Shirley Towns; daughter, Deana Towns Kayajan; stepchildren, Karen Cappellucci and Daniel Fitzpatrick; grandchildren, Mary Flynn Kayajan and David Cappellucci; and great-grandchildren, Edward Clifford, Jaxson Rising and Elliot Cappellucci.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents; step-sister, Priscilla Ojala; and granddaughter Jessica Cappellucci.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, September 20 from 1-4pm, at Giardino's Family Restaurant, 242 Main St., West Yarmouth.

Memorial donations can be made to Cape Cod Hospital's Davenport-Mugar Cancer Center (capecodhealth.org/cape-cod-healthcare-foundation).
