Joseph Travo Obituary

Published by Legacy on Aug. 29, 2025.
It is with a very heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved dad and grandfather Joe Travo, on August 20, 2025. Dad was born on June 30, 1930 to Frank and Della Travo. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Travo on February 18, 2025. Dad passed away of a broken heart. He wasn't able to recover from the loss of our mother and his loving wife of 74 years. They have now been reunited in eternal heaven.

Joe had a life full of joy and love for his 3 children: Della, Suzanne and Frank. Frank passed away in September 2023. He always wanted the best for us and gave us the best life possible. Joe had 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandson, whom he adored.

Joe attended Gonzaga High School where he lettered in football in 1949, and you will find his letter sweater on display in the school as you enter the doors. He loved sports, especially football and baseball, and he was an avid fisherman.

Joe was the last remaining duo of the famous Travo's Restaurant downtown for 70 years. His father Frank Travo started the business during World War II. It was one of three restaurants in the area for a number of years. It was an icon in the downtown area across the street from the Davenport Hotel. Many, many articles have been written on this famous establishment over the years. Joe was a hard worker since the age of 9, standing on a wood box, washing beer glasses and peeling potatoes.

Running a successful business didn't leave much time for other things. When dad could get away, he'd be in a fishing boat with mom and us kids, smoking a cigar and catching trout on the many lakes in the area. They did finally settle on Sacheen lake for over 50 years and built so many beautiful memories with the family. Dad's kind and gentle soul will be missed every single day. Till we see you again sweet dad.

Please share memories of Joe or leave condolences for his family his Tribute Wall.
