Joseph B. Varney, age 38, of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at North Okaloosa Medical Center. Born on December 28, 1985, in South Williamson, Kentucky, he was the son of Joseph Christopher Varney and Jolana Workman Varney. A proud graduate of Walton High School, Joseph dedicated many years to the construction industry. He was also known for his skills in fixing cars and his ability to repair just about anything. His kind heart and gentle soul were evident to all who knew him. Joseph's greatest joy came from his family – his beloved wife, Sara, his children, and his extended family. His warm smile and infectious laugh had the power to light up any room. Joseph's generosity extended beyond his family; as an organ donor, he saved lives and will forever be remembered as a hero.
He is survived by his wife, Sara Tackett; his children, Joe B. Varney, III, Christopher Brent Varney, and Ezra Alan Varney; his mother, Jolana Workman Varney; and his brother, James Thomas Williamson; as well as his mother-in-law; sisters-in-law, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Christopher Varney; his children, Joseph Christopher Varney, II and Ervin Lincoln Varney; and his grandparents, James Ervin Workman and Joyce Layne Workman, and Joe B. Varney and Ernestene Weddington Varney.
Joseph will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 30, 2024 in the chapel of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 1474 State Highway 83 North, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433, beginning at 2:00 p.m. with Minister Joel Davis officiating. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Committal services will follow at Magnolia Cemetery. The family has asked the following loved ones to serve as pallbearers, James T. Williamson, Rorey Williamson, James E. Workman, Shawn M. Workman, Shawn E. Workman, Joey Bevins and Sean Pyles.
