I am one of Joe´s first cousins; although I did not grow up with him, I knew he was a fierce warrior type.. a gentle giant. He came to my mom´s 75 th birthday surprise party at waldameer and he walked in with us... not letting on to the surprise with my mom. How happy we were to see him! And he was the surprise for my mom, Aunt Rena! He was always about family that I could see. During this Lenten season, he has shown us that suffering is a form of grace and redemption... as Jesus did for us on the cross. He didn´t want to end his fight, but now i think he knows .. it was worth it. My deepest condolences to his family. Dianne Martone.
