Joseph Weinman Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 23, 2025.
Joseph G. Weinman, 94, of Marshfield, died peacefully at his home on December 21, 2025.
Joe was the devoted husband of the late Joan Barbara Gold and a loving father of Jeffrey K. Weinman and his wife, Claudia Schmidt, of California; Laura Slomiak and her late husband, Brett, of Pennsylvania; Matthew L. Weinman and his wife, Michelle, of Nevada; and Cynthia Whipple and her husband, Herbert, of Marshfield. He was the proud grandfather of Daniel (wife, Stacy) and Dillon Weinman; Brandon Follick; Jake (wife, Emily), Tyler, and Joshua Slomiak; Jessica, Joey, Molly, and Jonny Weinman; and Matthew and Tom Whipple. He was also the proud great-grandfather of his first great-grandson, Riley.
He was the brother of the late Irving Louis "Lou" Weinman and his late sister-in-law, Marion Berkman Lipson. He is survived by his nieces, Sally Lebwhol, Emily Lee, and Martha O'Connell, as well as many beloved cousins.
Joe was born on January 30, 1931, in Boston to the late Moses A. and Eva (Gorbach) Weinman. He grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1948. He then went on to attend the University of Southern California, graduating in 1952 with a B.S. in Advertising. In 1953, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1958 as a LT, USNR. He joined the IBM Corporation in Boston as a Data Processing Salesman and then the Master Chemical Company in Boston as a General Manager
Joe began volunteering at the Pine Street Inn in Boston and later became the Services Supervisor of the Fort Point Shelter. He retired in 1993. Following his retirement, he became deeply involved in numerous nonprofit activities. He organized the construction of the first Habitat for Humanity house in Marshfield, for which he was recognized as the Town's Citizen of the Year, 1997. He volunteered at the Mass Audubon Society, Road to Responsibility, and Marshfield Food Pantry. In 1997, he became one of the founders of the Boys and Girls Club of Marshfield and a member of the Board of Directors. As an off-shoot of his work with Habitat for Humanity, he worked with their Special Projects Group that later became "The Renew Crew". The group of retirees provided repairs, renovations, and built handicap ramps primarily for senior citizens.
Known affectionately as Papa Joe, not only by his grandchildren but by the many who knew him through his involvement and adventures in the community, Joe was deeply loved. Joe enjoyed playing tennis, listening to jazz and the big bands of the 40's, woodcarving, and the companionship of several rescue dogs. He constructed Adirondack chairs, benches, and tables for numerous family, friends, and non-profit groups in his town. In 1976, he became a "Friend of Bill's" and remained one until his death.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Donations in Joe's memory can be made to The Boys and Girls Club of Marshfield or "The Joanie Fund", Boston Healthcare for the Homeless Program, 780 Albany Street, Boston, MA 02118
