Reverend Joseph Thomas Wheat, Jr., beloved pastor and devoted servant of the Lord, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at the age of 87.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 10:00 AM at First Apostolic Church. Reverend Wyatt Rider and Reverend Jay Yelverton will officiate. Visitation will take place Friday, March 6, 2026, beginning at 5:00 PM at the church.

Rev. Wheat dedicated his life to ministry, faithfully serving as Pastor of First Apostolic Church for fifty remarkable years. As one of Morehouse Parish's longest-serving pastors, his influence extended far beyond the local community as he preached throughout the world. A man of many talents, he was also a National Guard veteran and accomplished author of seven books. Above all, Rev. Wheat was known for his deep love of the Lord and unwavering devotion to his church family.

Rev. Wheat leaves behind a loving family including his daughter, Lorinda Wheat; son, David Wheat and his wife Tina; grandchildren Ryan Wheat, Matthew Wheat and wife Kadie, Hannah McDaniel and husband Joe, and Wyatt Rider and wife Sabrina; and great-grandchildren Gabriella Franklin, Gavin McDaniel, Averie Rider, and Thomas Rider.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sis. Blanche Wheat; his parents; and eleven siblings.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ryan Wheat, Matthew Wheat, Wyatt Rider, Joe McDaniel, Jacob Johnson, and Gabriel Johnson.

Rev. Wheat's legacy of faith, service, and love will continue to inspire all who knew him.
