Joseph L. Winkel, 73, a life-long resident of
Manitowoc, Wisconsin, passed away March 21, 2025, at Shady Lane Assisted Living (Laurel Grove), Manitowoc.
Joe was born October 21, 1951, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin to the late Arthur and Bernice (Spice) Winkel. He had 12 brothers and sisters. Attending Lincoln High School until 1970, he married his high school sweetheart, Joan E. Mott September 26, 1970 at Holy Innocents Catholic Church in Manitowoc. They had four children, Tammy Ann, Joseph Lee, Jason Lee, and Wendy Jo.
Over a career of 48 years, he worked at Kelvinator and WalMart, retiring from Formrite Tubing in 2018. He studied Health Physics at Lakeshore Technical College.
Joe is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joan, two daughters, Tammy (Andrew) Garrett and Wendy (Brett) Sieracki, two sons, Joseph (Maggie) Winkel and Jason Winkel. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Cassidy Winkel (Spencer), Makiah Winkel (Dominique), Jordan and Karen Winkel, Tristan Garrett (Danny), Allyssa Winkel, Halle Krause (Josh), Mackenzie Garrett (Gabriel), Carson Garrett (Mercedes), Kyle Sieracki, Shaylynn Sieracki, and Brandon Sieracki.
He is also survived by four sisters, Christine Cerkas, Alice (Bill) Mohr, Marge (Russell) Holdorf, Mary Hardrath (Jim) and two brothers, John (Betty) Paape and Michael Winkel, as well as by brother-in-law David Matthias, several nieces and nephews and eight great grandchildren, Marquise, Jayceon, Zy'aire, Cash, Ava, Aston, Aylah, and Royce.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law Lucy and Marvin Mott, brother and sister-in-law Gene and Bernedine Mott, brothers and sisters James and Violet Winkel, Eva Matthias, Patricia Genske, Arthur Winkel, Jr., Kathy and Arthur Ripley, and Karen and Bruce Williquette as well as sister-in-law Shelly Winkel.
Joe enjoyed camping and traveling, but most of all spending time with his family. He was hard working and always willing to lend a hand to friends and family. He was loved by everyone he met and was a big sports fan, enjoying the Brewers and going to Packer games.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, March 28 from 2:00 to 7:00 pm at Lincoln Park, Cabin 2, Manitowoc.
