Joseph A. Zanol, age 85 of
Avon Lake, Ohio, passed away Saturday, November 8, 2025. He was born March 1, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois to parents Enrico and Constanza (nee Daves) Zanol.
Joseph grew up in the Little Italy area of Chicago until about age 14. As an avid Chicago Cubs fan, he could be found riding his bike to Wrigley Field as a boy to enjoy a game. When Joseph was entering high school, his father was entering retirement and they moved to Capriana, Italy. While living in Italy, Joseph was able to know many of his aunts, uncles and cousins that he otherwise might not have met. Following high school, he moved back to the United States and soon joined the US Air Force, proudly serving a 20-year career rising to the rank of Sr. Master Sargent. During this time, Joseph attended college and earned a bachelor's degree in business. Joseph enjoyed his three-year deployment to France, where he also played for a European soccer team. He served in logistics while in Vietnam and later as a software program manager. He also had a 4-year deployment to Germany, where his family was stationed with him. Joseph also served during the Vietnam conflict making him a Vietnam Veteran. Following his retirement, Joseph spent another 16 years as a civil service contractor at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Joseph was a proud member of the Sons of Italy and had a love of all types of music.
Joseph is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years Barbara (nee Durant) Zanol; loving daughters Deborah (Jeff) Lucas, Marie (Orlando Hernandez) Zanol, and Teresa (Kevin) Egan; and cherished grandchildren Benjamin, Jeremy, Samual, Marley, Isaac, Andrew, and Ryan. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Rose Gibson and John Zanol.

A private service to celebrate Joseph's life was held with just his immediate family. He was laid to rest at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Seville, OH. www.buschcares.com 440-933-3202
