Joseph John "New York Joe" Zdunczyk

Joseph John ("New York Joe") Zdunczyk, aged 99, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025, at Shadyside Health Care & Rehab. Born on June 8, 1926, in Brooklyn, NY, Joseph lived a long and fulfilling life dedicated to his family, community, and country.

Joseph proudly served his country as a WWII Army Veteran, an experience that shaped his character and sense of duty. Following his military service, he embarked on a career within the Post Office and New York School System's Administration, where he was known for his diligence and commitment.

Joseph was an active and cherished member of the American Legion Post 521 in Shadyside, OH, and a devout member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shadyside, OH. Known for his love of socializing, Joseph brought joy and warmth to every gathering, creating lasting friendships and fond memories.

He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Mary Zdunczyk; his devoted wife, Josephine Koch Zdunczyk; and his son, Joseph Thomas Zdunczyk.

Joseph leaves behind a loving family, including his daughter, Rebecca "Becky" Gardner, and her husband Bob of Shadyside, OH. He was a proud grandfather to Bobby Gardner Jr., Valarie Gardner (Joe), TJ (Wynter) Zdunczyk, and Justin (Amber) Zdunczyk. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Mattisan (Zach) Bigelow, Mylie (Jacob) Brown, Lanie Gardner, Gracie Gardner, Makenzie Zdunczyk, and Alivia Zdunczyk.

In accordance with Joseph's wishes, a memorial mass will be held at a later date at St. Mary's Catholic Church - Shadyside, OH. His family honors his memory privately, celebrating the remarkable life he led and the lasting impact he made on those who knew him. Joseph will be deeply missed by all, but his spirit and love will forever remain in their hearts.
