Joseph R Zerman

Joseph R. Zerman, 91, formerly of South River, passed away peacefully at home in Monroe Township. He was born and raised in South River to the late John and Helen Zerman, before moving to East Brunswick where he lived for 57 years, prior to retiring to Monroe Township.

Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Army, in Colorado Springs, CO, as a Medical Laboratory Technician. He later earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Rutgers University and went on to build a long career with Anheuser-Busch Bakers Yeast, where he worked for 43 years before retiring in 1995, as Assistant Plant Manager.

Joseph was a man of many interests and talents. He loved cheering on the New York Yankees, Rutgers football and basketball, and spending time fishing. A skilled craftsman, he enjoyed woodworking and built many beautiful pieces of furniture for his family. He was also an accomplished stained-glass artist whose creations reflected his patience and creativity. Highly competitive and energetic well into his nineties, Joseph had a passion for sports and recreation, enjoying bowling, golfing, playing pool, shuffleboard, and bocce ball.

He was predeceased by his parents and by his beloved wife of 61 years, Frances Przybylski Zerman.

Joseph is survived by his loving children and their spouses, Amy Jo and Malcolm Francey, and Joseph and Kathleen Zerman, his cherished grandchildren, Riley Zerman, Logan Francey, and Kendall Zerman; his sisters, Rose Wyles and Dolores Christenson, and his loving companion Shirley Bodine, and many loving extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

Calling hours at the Maliszewski Funeral Home, 218 Whitehead Avenue in South River, will be held on Sunday from 12pm until 4pm.

Funeral services will be on Monday, with prayers beginning at 9:30am. A 10am Mass will be held at St. Mary of Ostrabrama RC Church in South River. A burial will follow at Washington Monumental Cemetery in South River.
