David Brooman

David Joseph Brooman, 69, passed away unexpectedly on March 7, 2026. A longtime resident of Manasquan, New Jersey, he was an accomplished attorney known for his quiet strength and integrity, with family always at the center of his life.

David was born in Rochelle Park, New Jersey, and moved to Manasquan as a child. He attended St. Denis Elementary School and graduated from Manasquan High School before continuing his education at Rutgers University. He later earned his Juris Doctor from Villanova University School of Law.

David's strong work ethic began early while working alongside his parents at their restaurant, The Surf & Sand, in Manasquan. After graduating from law school, he built a distinguished legal career with prominent law firms including Cohen Shapiro and Drinker Biddle & Reath. He spent the last 12 years of his career at High Swartz, LLC, where he was a highly respected attorney and colleague.

David was admired for his integrity, compassion, and dedication to helping others. He took great pride in his work as an attorney and his advocacy for children who needed a strong voice. Thoughtful and steady by nature, he was a guiding presence for many, particularly his family. He found joy in gardening, traveling, and sports, with a special passion for golf. His greatest joy was spending long days at the beach with his family, especially his grandchildren.

David is survived by his wife, Rosemary Brooman (Bertinelli), Manasquan; his sons David Jr. (Marie), Altoona; Richard (Ali), Boston; Kyle (Olivia), Philadelphia; Luke (Maddison), Alexandria; his step-sons Trevor Peszko, Philadelphia; 1LT. Mario E. Bertinelli, U.S. Army, Prattville AL; Nicholas Bertinelli (Alyssa), Point Pleasant; Luca Bertinelli,Manasquan; and six grandchildren.

He is also survived by his sisters, Leslie Barlow (Stephen), Manasquan, and Nancy Bellia, Brick, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Hildegarde and Bankston Brooman; his brothers, William Brooman and Bankston Brooman; his brother-in-law Richard Bellia; and his stepson Anthony Bertinelli.
