Mrs. Josephine Whitaker Allen passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, and joined the Lord at the age of 88, surrounded by family at Memorial Hospital in Bainbridge, Georgia. Visitation and funeral services will take place at Colquitt Funeral Home on Friday, October 3. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, followed by the funeral service, officiated by Rev. Tony Mock. Interment will follow at Colquitt City Cemetery. Active pallbearers for the service will be Richard Allen, Erick Burke, Roger Gordon, Benji Holt, David Lott, John Pratt, and Dr. Daniel Allen.
Mrs. Allen was a devoted wife and beloved mother to her five "boys". Josephine's life was guided by her deep faith and devotion to family. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. As an adoring grandmother, she always saw the best in her grandchildren, often calling them "so special" and never noticing any flaws. She was a lifelong member of Pilgrims Rest Church, where she served as clerk for many years.
She is survived by four sons, Ricky (Sherry) Allen, Tim (Sandra) Allen, Danny (Sheila) Allen, and Russ Allen, all of Colquitt; five grandchildren, Jamie (Erick) Burke and Crystal Holt of Colquitt; Richard (Erin) Allen of Macon, and Laura (David) Lott of Messer, and Dr. Daniel Allen and fiance Herrington Murray of Augusta; and eight great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband, James "Floyd" Allen; a son, Thomas Floyd Allen; a brother, Donald Whitaker; her mother, Essie Clide Shepard, and her father, Sidney Whitaker.
