Josephine “Josie” Bennett, 77 of Forgan, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025, in Amarillo, Texas.
Josie was born on June 14, 1948, in Austin, Texas, to Margarito Negreti and Rosa Hernandez. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose kindness and faith touched everyone she met.
Josie loved spending time with her family and friends, often showing her love through her cooking, especially her famous tortillas. She also enjoyed sharing meals with others and never turned down good food or good company. One of her greatest joys was watching her grandson Kameron play sports.
Throughout her five-year battle with cancer, Josie’s unwavering faith and radiant smile inspired all who knew her. She faced every challenge with grace, finding comfort and strength in her belief that God was by her side through it all.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Margarito Negreti and Rosa Hernandez; Her brothers Ray Hernandez, Victor Hernandez, Domingo Hernandez, and Steve Ruedas; her daughter Linda Vega; her grandchildren Bernico Vega and Payton Bennett; and her great granddaughter Elianna Garcia.
Josie is survived by her devoted husband of 37 years, Dale Bennet; her children Frank Vega(and wife Robin, Mary Vega, Valarie Bennett(and Son in law Cris), Melanie Stithem, Ryan Bennett(and wife Catherine), and James Bennett(and wife Marta); her sister Rosmary Diaz, 29 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Forgan, Oklahoma, on Saturday, November 1st at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Oklahoma Panhandle Partners, P.O. Box 829, Guymon, OK 73942
