Josephine DeChicchis Obituary

Published by Legacy on Sep. 29, 2025.
Josephine (Josie) DeChicchis, age 81, of West Bloomfield, Michigan, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2025, after a courageous 16-year battle with stage IV Lung Cancer. She never accepted that diagnosis and instead chose to live her life with a strong faith and a free spirit. A devoted mother and grandmother fueled by boundless energy. She was small but mighty. A dancing Queen. Born in Clairton, Pennsylvania, Josie relocated to Michigan in 1966 shortly after getting married. She spent many years as a gifted hairstylist and painter, but her artistry extended far beyond her profession. She was creative in every sense of the word, finding beauty in the world around her and sharing it with others. She loved to keep her home clean and stylishly decorated. She was always humbled by everyone's interest in her paintings. Outgoing and full of life, she could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere, and would often offer advice or be concerned if they were hungry. She was very generous and nurturing and her love for cooking was a cherished part of her Italian heritage. She was also a storyteller at heart. She often began with the words, "Kickass" and "to make a long story short," though her stories were rarely short but always entertaining. Her laughter, energy, and love of life filled every room she entered. Josie's love wrapped around our hearts and made us feel that nothing was missing in our lives when we were with her. Her love was so strong that we will always feel her near us. She is survived by her loving children Michael Cologie and Melissa (Mike) Lundgren and grandmother to Emma Lundgren, who will forever carry her legacy of resilience, warmth, and joy in their hearts. She will be laid to rest in a private burial surrounded by love. A memorial luncheon will be held next month by invitation. The family extends heartfelt thanks to everyone at Hechtman Apartments and to the Accentcare hospice caregivers and friends who surrounded her with compassion and kindness in her final days.
