Josephine Fanucchi Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cooney Funeral Home - Park Ridge on Mar. 12, 2026.
Josephine Fanucchi, aged 102, born December 11, 1923, died peacefully within her home on March 11, 2026. A resident on Altgeld street in Lincoln Park, Chicago since her family migrated here from Lucca, Italy, in 1925. She was a hairdresser for all the ladies within our local neighborhood who were mostly fellow clergy members. She is survived by her beloved son, James Fanucchi and family, who was there to help her through her final days in the home she's occupied her entire life. Josephine will always be remembered for her resilient mind, her devotion to loving her legacy of three generations, and her contributions to her faith, which included collecting and giving donations to St. Bonaventure Parish and hosting St. Joseph's tables for many, many years. There is no one she met that will ever forget the amazing stories of her life throughout the 10 decades she has lived here in the US. She is reunited now with her parents Oreste and Settima Papucci, her siblings Nella Parenti and Sam and Elio Papucci, her cherished husband Geno Fanucchi, and most recently her dear daughter Jeanne Wehrheim, who have all been waiting for her at the gates of heaven, finally welcoming her home.

A Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2026 from 9:30 AM until the time of the mass at 11:30 AM at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 1429 W. Wellington Avenue, Chicago, IL 60657. Following the mass Josephine will be Entombed at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hillside, IL.
